Elizabeth Baines is a playwright and the author of two short story collections, Used to Be and Balancing on the Edge of the World, and the novels Too Many Magpies and The Birth Machine, all published by Salt.

Sarah Butler explores the relationship between writing and place through prose, poetry and participatory projects, and ran the Walking The Edge project for DAF in 2015. She has two novels published by Picador in the UK and with fourteen international publishers: Ten Things I’ve Learnt About Love and Before The Fire.

Sarah-Clare Conlon is a flash fiction writer and journalist, who headed up the Re/Place project for Chorlton Arts Festival in 2015. Her prize-winning work is published by Salt, Comma, Stand and Flash, and she was long listed for the Bath Flash Fiction Award. A former editor on ELLE, she now writes for Creative Tourist and Manchester Confidential, and runs popular live literature night Verbose.

David Gaffney has published four story collections with Salt: Sawn-off Tales, Aromabingo, The Half-life of Songs and More Sawn-off Tales. He is the author of two novels, Never Never and All the Places I’ve Ever Lived, which has just been published. He has a graphic novel, The Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head, in collaboration with artist Dan Berry, out next year.

Nicholas Royle is the author of 150 short stories, two novellas and seven novels, most recently First Novel (Vintage). His short story collection Ornithology is out in May 2017 on Confingo Publishing and he has edited 20 anthologies, including six volumes of Best British Short Stories (Salt). A senior lecturer in creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University and head judge of the Manchester Fiction Prize, he also runs Nightjar Press.

Adrian Slatcher is a poet, short story writer and musician. His poetry and short stories are widely published, including the Salt Modern Voices collection Playing Solitaire for Money. He is currently working on a novel and makes music as Bonbon Experiment.
